Why I took it off the list:

Mostly because of Lizzy Caplan. I’ve been a fan of the actress since her iconic supporting turn as Janice Ian in Mean Girls and her time on the seriously underrated comedy series Party Down.

She also showed her scream queen chops as one of the unlucky party guests fleeing from a giant city-wrecking monster in Cloverfield (2008). And did a decent spin on Misery‘s Annie Wilkes in the short-lived Stephen King show Castle Rock (2018-19).

So when I saw that a horror-comedy starring the actress was screening at Sitges 2026, I had to check it out!

Review of Drag (2026)

Drag - Review of Drag (2026)
Lizzy Caplan in Drag

Despite its title, this hilarious dark comedy is anything but a drag (it also has nothing to do with drag queens!)

Instead, it refers to the action that takes up a good chunk of the runtime: a woman dragging her sister around a large house. But there is much more to Drag.

While a lot of the comedy (and some horror!) is derived from this sequence, the humor starts well before this, as two combative sisters (Caplan, Lucy DeVito) shoot barbs at each other in their car.

One is not happy that the other, who she considers a pathetic fuck-up unwisely following in their father’s criminal footsteps, has essentially convinced her to be lookout/getaway driver during a burglary at a remote house. And is panicking at every sign of things going wrong, including a passing police car.

But things get more fraught when Caplan’s character accidentally throws her back out while attempting to steal “rich people shampoo.” And ends up in the bath tub with debilitating pain, screaming out to her sister for help over their walkie-talkies.

Her sister eventually decides to go in and rescue her, but only has twenty minutes to get her out before the owner arrives home. And the two come up against a variety of obstacles.

There is much more to the plot of Drag, including some very surprising twists and turns. But I won’t go into it so you can discover them for yourself. I’ll only say that the women’s situation gets increasingly tense, in large part to their own ineptitude as burglars.

Tense and Hilarious

Drag - Tense and Hilarious
Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito in Drag

The script for Drag is consistently laugh-out-loud funny. But it’s also very tense and has more than a a couple of developments that had me gasping out loud and gripping my arm rest.

Without question, the film wouldn’t work half as well without the deeply committed performances from Caplan and DeVito. And their easy rapport.

Caplan really gets to show the range of her formidable comedic skills, including some priceless facial expressions. As well as some hefty physical comedy work.

DeVito (whose father Danny also produced) is also the perfect foil to Caplan as the more straight-laced sister. Who begins to freak out as the situation gets more desperate. And John Stamos gets to subvert his Full House nice guy persona in some really fun ways!

Score: 8/10
